SAFARI LODGE

Getting There

The Journey Is Part of the Forest

Bwindi sits in the far southwest of Uganda, in the cool, terraced highlands of Kigezi, a region of folded green hills, crater lakes and roadside markets that the guidebooks call "the Switzerland of Africa." Reaching us is its own quiet adventure, and we'll be with you for every turn of it.

From Kampala Or Entebbe

By Air: the gentle way in. Scheduled light-aircraft flights connect Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi Airstrip, the gateway to northern Bwindi, in a little over an hour. You trade a full day’s drive for a window seat over Lake Victoria, the Rift Valley, and the forest itself.

From Kihihi, our team meets you for a short, scenic transfer to the lodge. This is the option most of our guests choose, and the one we most often recommend.

By Road: the scenic immersion. The drive from Kampala runs roughly eight to nine hours through the heart of the country, tea estates, equator crossings, and the long climb into the Kigezi highlands. It is a beautiful, full day on the road, best broken with an overnight en route. We are happy to arrange a private vehicle and driver-guide for the journey.

From Rwanda

For many travellers, Kigali is the easier door to Bwindi. Kigali International Airport sits just three to four hours by road from the southern sectors of the forest — often quicker and smoother than the journey from Kampala. After the border crossing at Katuna/Gatuna, the road winds up into the hills toward us. We can coordinate your transfer from the moment you clear the Rwandan side.

We Carry the Logistics

Airport and airstrip transfers are included in your stay. Tell us your flights, and we’ll handle the rest, the meeting, the vehicle, the timing, and the welcome at the end of the road. All you need to do is arrive.
