Activities

The Forest Has Many Doors

The gorillas may be the reason you come, but they are far from the only story Bwindi has to tell. Each of these experiences can be added to your stay, let us know your interests, and we'll shape your days around them.

Gorilla Tracking

This is the one you'll carry forever. With a small group and an expert tracker, you set out into the forest before the dew has lifted, following the gentle signs a gorilla family leaves behind. The walk can be an hour or most of a day, the forest decides. And then, suddenly, there they are: a mother cradling her infant, juveniles tumbling through the undergrowth, the great silverback watching, unhurried, entirely at home. For one hour, you are simply a guest in their world. Few experiences on Earth come close.

The Batwa Trail

Long before the forest was a park, it belonged to the Batwa, the "keepers of the forest," who lived among its trees for millennia.
Walk with them now as they share the world they once called home, the hunting paths, the medicinal plants, the songs and stories of a people whose history is woven into Bwindi itself. It is a humbling, generous afternoon, and one of the most moving experiences we offer.

Birding

Bwindi is a birder's holy ground. Over three hundred and fifty species, including Albertine Rift endemics found almost nowhere else. With a specialist guide and an early start, you might find the Rwenzori turaco flashing crimson through the canopy, or the African green broadbill that birders cross continents to glimpse. Bring binoculars; we'll bring the eyes that know where to look.

Forest Walks

Not every walk leads to gorillas. Our gentler forest trails wind past giant ferns, butterfly-thick clearings and ancient trees, with a guide to read the forest aloud, the call overhead, the print in the mud, the medicine in the leaf. It's the perfect way to feel Bwindi without the full exertion of a track.

The Pangolin Rescue Centre

Meet the world's most trafficked, and most secretive, mammal. A visit to the pangolin rescue centre brings you close to these gentle, armoured creatures and the dedicated team working to save them, while you learn why their quiet survival matters so much. A rare encounter, and a quietly hopeful one.

Waterfalls

Follow a forest path to where the waterfalls, a cool, cascading reward at the end of a green tunnel of fern and vine. It's a half-day's walk through some of Bwindi's loveliest terrain, with the falls themselves a place to pause, breathe, and let the forest's spray settle the day.
